FOXO4-DRI is a peptide with D-amino acids and a retro-inverted sequence that acts as a senolytic โ a molecule that selectively eliminates senescent cells. In a study on human chondrocytes, the peptide selectively removed senescent cells from culture without killing normal cells, making it promising for ACI protocols (autologous chondrocyte implantation).
Later work demonstrated sensitivity of keloid skin fibroblasts to FOXO4-DRI: senescent fibroblasts supporting pathological scar growth underwent apoptosis, opening prospects for use in hypertrophic scars. Large human RCT data are absent, keeping the molecule in research-agent status.
